Citation Guidelines

When citing sources for your musical analysis project, your research paper, or any other project for this class, please follow MLA Style Guidelines for citation. You should note the last name of the author quoted and page numbers (if any) within the text, and then list all sources in a “Works Cited” section at the end of your project.

I’m going to work on a condensed MLA “cheat sheet” to post on our site, but in the meantime, please consult the comprehensive site on MLA citations published by Purdue University: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/06/

Please note that the MLA Guidelines were rather substantially revised in 2009, so older reference guides may be out of date. The new guidelines include streamlined procedures for referencing electronic resources, and require noting whether a source was consulted in print or online.
